This class will show you a (most likely) new way of conceptualizing and moving your body, explore concepts of rhythm and timing, and discuss one theory of stage presence.
We’ll borrow heavily from the technique of Corporeal Mime, a type of physical theatre, but will filter it through the lens of everyday life. During our time together, you’ll learn a little technique, think with your body (or at the very least standing up), and interact with the other participants to create simple and heavily improvised 15-30 second pieces. We’ll also discuss how you can apply these concepts to your everyday life: be it presentations at work, or even just looking slightly more imposing as you walk into the supermarket.
This class will ask you to be aware of your body in ways you may not have been previously, and by no means should you expect to come in or leave with a mastery of anything we touch upon, but the experience will hopefully open your eyes to at least one new concept that you can take with you and develop on your own in the future.
No movement or acting experience necessary. If you have injuries or limited mobility, you are still welcome to come and participate in whatever capacity you are able, but may occasionally find that you’d do better sitting and watching certain things. **Accessibility: This venue has several stairs at the entrance and to access the restroom.
